SLC From de Air

Kennecott Cooper Mine

You won't need to travel to outer space to see this - although you could. The Bingham Canyon Mine is the largest manmade excavation on earth and the largest open pit copper mine in the world. It can be seen by astronauts orbiting the earth or by visitors each year. The mine covers an area of about 1,900 acres and is twice as deep as the world's tallest building. An interactive visitors center offers exhibits that explain the pit's geology and operations.
